Referrals! You do not require a doctor's referral to book a physiotherapy treatment, however, to be covered under many types of insurances you may require one to process your claim. Please check with your provider before starting, as failure to do so may result in non coverage which would leave you solely responsible for payment. Speak to our knowledgeable staff if not sure of your coverage.

One question we often hear is "My insurance company, WSIB Motor Vehicle Insurance or Physician have suggested another physiotherapy clinic but I would rather come to your clinic". Who decides? The choice is always yours. Some insurance companies have preferred provider agreements with certain clinics. Legally, it is your right to choose the person and clinic that provides Physiotherapy. This cannot affect the outcome of your claim.

To make sure our clinic can accommodate any specialized treatment please contact us directly.

Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave Therapy has been around for many years, however previously the cost of the equipment was very expensive necessitating extremely high fees per treatment. These fees could range from several hundred dollars to over $1000 per treatment. With today's technology advancement newer equipment can be purchased at a reasonable price which allows us to significantly reduce the cost of this treatment making it a more affordable option to the majority of our patients.

I have attended teaching sessions on Shockwave Therapy at the University of Toronto with lectures by Dr. Rob Gordon Orthopaedic Surgeon (Uof T) Past President World Shockwave Society ISMST ,Dr Lawrence Michell (ART Instructor) and Chris Broadhurst former Maple Leafs trainer.

I feel confident that many patients will benefit from this new option available at Cornwall Regional Physiotherapy. Diane Fry, PT,BSc.PT, MCPA

Shockwave Therapy helps to Accelerate Healing

    Why Shockwave Therapy?

There are mild, if any side effects with this non-surgical treatment and it is available at a reasonable cost. Shockwave treatments are non-invasive and promote accelerated recovery of injured soft tissue, bone, heel and joint pain.

    What is a Shockwave?

Shockwave is an intense, but very short energy wave traveling faster than the speed of sound. The basic technology involved with extracorporeal shockwave technology has been used for decades on millions of people. Therapy sessions are short and can provide relief of chronic pain and restore mobility. Relief typically begins about 72 hours following treatment. Typically 3-6 treatment sessions are required.

    Who is using Shockwave Therapy?

World class institutions are using the same technology as Cornwall Regional Physiotherapy :

The treatments are provided by or under the supervision of a Registered Physiotherapist and are covered under 'physiotherapy' with most extended health plans. After a standard Physiotherapy consultation at $50.00 all treatment options will be discussed with you. If the decision is to proceed with Shockwave Therapy the initial treatment cost in addition to the consultation if done on the same day is $30.00 the cost of this service is $60.00 per treatment there after.

MVA Rehabilitation

Personal injuries from car accident trauma are common, and many times severe. Motor Vehicle Accidents may often result in lost work time and cause difficulties in dealing with day-to-day responsibilities and leisure time activities. After you've been injured in a crash, it's vital to get physiotherapy as quickly as possible. Many times, the effects of an accident can be delayed or appear subtle. Seek medical advice as quickly as possible to ensure you are adequately treated and protected for the future.

How do I proceed with my MVA rehabilitation claim?

How do you proceed if your injuries are related to a Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA)? First inform your car insurance provider of the accident and any injuries that you have sustained. Regardless of who was at fault for the accident, your insurance provider is responsible for making health and rehabilitation services available to you. Once you have a health claim initiated with your insurance provider we can take care of the rest. Call us to book an initial assessment. In this session your Registered Physiotherapist will assess your injuries, discuss with you a treatment plan and collect all the necessary information to complete the appropriate MVA insurance forms. In most cases treatment is also initiated at this time and follow-up appointments will be made, taking your schedule into consideration.

In Ontario, according to The Insurance Act, cost for medical rehabilitation care due to car accident will be covered by insurance company either through Auto Insurance or Extended Health Care Insurance if applicable.

At Cornwall regional Physiotherapy; our experienced administration team will assist patients and offer services in direct billing and handling complicated paper work through insurance company.

Our clinic is officially licensed under the FSCO to be a direct billing clinic for MVA Clients.

As with all our clients, our objective is to use all of our available resources to get you better as quickly as possible. Cornwall Regional Physiotherapy, 1217, Second Street West 613-935-7018

WSIB Workman's Compensation Insurance

Ontario's workplace insurance system provides benefits and services to workers who have been injured at work. Workplace insurance is also called workers' compensation or WSIB.

To qualify for workplace insurance benefits, you must meet the requirements set out in the Ontario law that governs workplace insurance. This law is called the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, 1997.

To apply for workplace insurance benefits, you must file a claim with the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) within the appropriate time limit. The WSIB is an agency of the Ontario government that administers the workplace safety and insurance system. If you file a claim, you have the right to get a copy of your file from the WSIB.

You can file a WSIB claim for most kinds of injuries, as long as they are related to your work.

What to do in case of an injury at work

If you have had a workplace injury it should be immediately reported to your manager, you will have to fill out forms in order to get your treatment started. If Physiotherapy is recommended by your Physician, the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) will require a formal physician referral before therapy is approved. Once approved you can proceed to book an appointment with us.

The process for WSIB approval begins with reporting the injury. Your employer will need to fill out a Form 7 and submit it to WSIB. The attending Physician will need to complete a Form 8 and also submit it to WSIB. After these two forms are received, WSIB will send you a Form 6, which you need to fill out and return when completed. All of the required forms can be found online. You have the option to either print or fill out the required forms. If the e-forms are used to submit a claim you can save yourself significant processing time.

To access online forms go to http://www.wsib.on.ca/ Locate the workers tab on the toolbar at the top of the website page. Under "workers" within the blue box click on "forms". The following PDF'S are the most common forms:

    WSIB Worker Travel Expense Form.
    Worker's Report of Injury.
(If you are unable to view these, please visit www.adobe.com for the free Acrobat reader)

You should contact WSIB weekly to check the status of your claim. Once you are approved, you will be assigned a nurse care manager and an adjudicator.

On your approval you can then contact us for an assessment and the Physiotherapist will develop a treatment plan suited to your needs. WSIB will cover travel expenses to and from Physiotherapy. The travel expense form and instructions can also be found on the WSIB website under the workers/forms.

If your injury is a re-occurrence, you should report it to WSIB right away. WSIB will send forms for you and your doctor to complete and return.

CAUTION if treatment is necessary due to a workplace injury, it is important that you follow all the WSIB requirements. Not informing us at the time of your initial booking that it is a workplace injury, may result in your responsibility to cover all your accumulated fees if your WSIB claim is denied!

When phoning Cornwall Regional Physiotherapy to set up your initial Assessment you will require the following information:
    • Date of injury
    • WSIB assigned claim Number
    • Referring Doctor
If you have any questions on procedures we are here to help you please feel free to call us for info. 613-935-7018. For additional info. on WSIB guidelines and regulations please visit the WSIB website @ http://www.wsib.on.ca/

Laser Therapy is often used if the Physiotherapist feels that it can benefit in your treatment plan.

Cornwall Regional Physiotherapy has been providing high quality Laser Treatments for several years to many of our physiotherapy patients where conditions warrant and with no extra charge, unlike many clinics in Ontario that bill the patient a separate charge.
